Hello well for starters I live in Oklahoma and I am really wanting to get into family/ marriage counseling. I am not sure what type of degree I need to get to do this. I am wanting to some day open my own little office and do this I know I dont have to get a PHD or anything just to be a licensed marriage / family counselor. I am thinking Bachelors in Sociology ? or psychology ? or ummm yeah see why I need help . Thanks so much!!!!

You can get your Bachelors like you’re already planning to in either sociology or psychology then get your Masters in family counseling. You can get a better job and more money with a Masters than with just a Bachelors by itself.

If I were you I would get a bachelors degree in psychology and a masters in counseling or psychology and go from there. A counselor usually only needs a masters degree, but if you want to go for psychology (the big bucks) there are schools that have psychology programs with a specialization in family and marriage therapy. Just make sure the programs are accredited, so you could get a license in family therapy. If you need more flexibility University of Phoenix is great for a master degree online. Research is the key. There are so many paths that lead to the same place. This is just one.
